Why you need water for your next hike

You lose a lot of water through sweating. Should it be short or long hikes, dehydration must catch up with your body. This can lead to exhaustion and heat stroke. Dehydrated muscles might result in muscle cramping and experience some discomforts.

You might experience some headaches while in the woods if you get dehydrated and do not drink water. It is recommended to drink a litre of water for every two hours of hiking. Since water will add weight to your backpack, it is advisable to carry the right amount for you. Alternatively, if you are hiking near water sources, you can carry fewer amounts.

How frequent should you drink water?

How often you need to kip sipping your water will depend on several factors. I will list the factors that affect your frequency: –

  • Your size: – no two persons are the same. We all have different individual needs.
  • Your fitness level
  • The weather conditions: – humid conditions would demand less water as compared to a hot environment.
  • Amount of stress on your back
  • The terrain you are using and the kind of activities you are doing: – if you are working harder, you will losing more water. Should you fail to replace the fluids you are losing, you will get dehydrated.

As you can see, the amount of water will depend with the person and the climate as well.

How much to carry?

Another important question for hikers is how much water they need to carry in your water bottle. If where you are going there is plenty of water, why carry too much water? You just need to make sure you purify the water before drinking.
